NRRS Social Programs

About The Program

At NRRS we currently offer two different, no-fee programs or activities for your child or family to be involved in. They range from monthly to quarterly and are open to all currently active NRRS participants.

Fun Friday

For Pictou County families registered with NRRS and living with a caregiver. Events are held monthly in April, June, October, and December. The events are for the whole family including parents, extended family, caregivers, and guardians. This program is free to NRRS families and is funded by United Way of Pictou County and Summer Street Industries.

Saturday Social

A social program for children age 6-18 inclusively and registered with NRRS. Groups meet once a month on Saturdays from September to May. This program provides respite support for families when program participants enjoy social activities in the community. This program is free to NRRS participants.

Who Can Register?

Our program is for children age 6 to 19+ who have diverse abilities and reside within Pictou County. All of these programs do require preregistration. Registration for any and all of these programs can be completed through the Inclusion Facilitator.

Why it Matters?

At each social program, we provide a safe, physical, healthy, inclusive, and engaging environment to participants. Social programs provide enhanced respite support opportunities to families.

Social programs enable people to enjoy a higher quality of life. Acquiring social skills fosters self-advocacy and self-confidence. Attending social activities enables families to create supportive networks with other families supporting children with diverse abilities.

When siblings attend social activities, they realize they are not alone and face similar situations. Enjoying time together in social programs enables participants to build positive relationships.

At NRRS services we are committed to small and inclusive ratios. That is why all of our  programs are a 1-4 ratio for staffing, safety, and transportation purposes.

All Programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible and have staffing provided to support diverse abilities. If additional support is required NRRS staff, the participant, and caregivers will explore what support options are available in order to enable full program participation.

At Northern Region Respite Services we strive to provide inclusive and accessible programs, supports and services to families and individuals caring for persons diagnosed with diverse abilities.
